We had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Sharon and Larry came to town and stayed for about three days. Melinda also came to town, but I didn’t see her much. Thursday we had the usual fare: turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, stuffing and green beans. Everything was so delicious. I think it was one of the best meals Alan’s cooked. And of course we had pumpkin pies, thanks to Village Inn. They were actually pretty good too. All I can say is there weren’t any leftovers.
Friday we just took it easy. Tayler braved the mall, but I was just brave enough to drop her off. That wasn’t too bad, even though the parking lot was full. She bought a really cute hat and some sweats, but she didn’t see any great sales. Even if they were giving it away, I wouldn’t have gone to the mall, because: 1. I couldn’t deal with the crowds and 2. Who needs more stuff anyway? Mom and I were talking about it today, how it’s fun to buy gifts for other people, but really, no one wants more junk to dust or store. It would be better to just forget about presents and enjoy each other’s company.
Sharon wanted to go to Kmart, so we went for a quick trip. I was able to grab a couple of games for Chloe and Courtney, which finished off Albuquerque gifts. I asked Larry and Sharon to take the gifts home with them; for once they’ll be delivered before Christmas, instead of six months later.
Saturday the girls all went to lunch at Chili’s and then we had manis and pedis. We had to take it easy on Sharon while she was visiting because she just had surgery for her pace maker. One of the wires had come loose and had to be reattached (Yikes!) so she couldn’t do anything physical. We all sacrificed and let ourselves be pampered. By the time we were done Larry was ready to go home. They packed up the car and left by 4:00. I think he gets too bored if he’s not working. He was so antsy he even mowed our lawn.
Sunday we met Melinda and Uncle at the flea market. It wasn’t crowded at all and the weather was perfect. After looking through piles of junk no one needs, and very few want, I dropped Kelsey off to get a haircut. Tayler kept her company, which was so sweet. At times they seem like they’re getting along better, but who knows. That’s just today and tomorrow they may be screaming at each other again. Ah, teenagers.
So, what am I thankful for this year?
A family so warm and loving everyone is welcomed and treated with kindness.
The abundance I enjoy everyday; plenty of good food, a warm and comfortable home and love.
Our health and well being.
Enjoying the company of those I love.
