We got a call Sunday that Loretta was in the hospital and they didn’t think she was going pull through. We went to Albuquerque and straight to the hospital, arriving at about midnight. Loretta was unconscientious, but she didn’t seem to be in pain or uncomfortable. Alan & K stayed with her all night and T and I went to Larry and Sharon’s at about 4:00 am. Alan called to say Loretta passed away at about 8:00. She went quietly, never waking up. I was so thankful that we made it to Albuquerque in time and that Alan could be by her side when she passed. I know that Loretta knows Alan was there by her side, holding her hand, and that’s the most important thing. Plus I think it was really good for K & T to be able to say goodbye. They didn’t have that opportunity with Chuck or Grandma Woods. Loretta didn’t want a Memorial service, but the family did have a viewing, which was heartbreaking. I think the saddest thing is how fractured her family became and it was glaringly obvious today. Only Larry’s family was in full attendance. Darrell showed up, but none of his children were there. Tammi was there, but Paula wasn’t able to make it.
I really respect Loretta. She was a strong, outspoken woman who did the best she could for her family.
